Two illustrative quote sheets comparing scope, inclusions, exclusions and delivery.

A low component price is not yet a low repair cost. Compare quotations only after the required assembly and job scope are aligned. Otherwise, one offer may exclude the fittings, service work or delivery stages included in another.

Make the offers comparable first

Use the same complete reference, documented configuration, quantity and supplied condition in each enquiry. Record the workshop's diagnosis separately from the request for stock and pricing. If the repair has not been confirmed, label the request as provisional rather than treating a quote as proof that the component is faulty.

Use a line-by-line comparison

Comparison line What to record for each offer
Supplied assembly Core only, complete assembly, individual component or kit; stated brand and condition.
Associated parts Included seals, brackets, fittings and separately required service items.
Repair work Diagnosis, removal/refitting, cleaning, machining or calibration where required.
Delivery Stock confirmation, dispatch estimate, freight and applicable destination charges.
Commercial conditions Written warranty, returns, payment and any core-return obligations.
Unresolved questions Items that prevent a like-for-like comparison; do not enter an assumed zero cost.

Example: a core-only offer versus an assembly

Illustrative comparison, not a real customer quote: Offer A describes a cooler core only. Offer B describes an assembly with supports. Before comparing prices, establish whether A needs additional supports, whether existing supports can be reused and whether B includes the connections required for the job.

A blank accessories field in A is not evidence that no accessories are needed. Nor should a higher initial price in B be assumed to cover all installation work. Resolve the scope, then compare the complete offers.

Keep missing charges visible

Compare currency, freight, applicable destination charges, required service work and any core-return terms on the same basis. Mark unknown amounts as unresolved rather than zero. A carrier transit estimate is only one part of the repair timeline; inspection, machining and commissioning may add dependencies.

For a multi-asset bulk order, control quantities and substitutions line by line. Use the single-component enquiry to obtain missing offer details. A fuel-pump repair-versus-replacement decision also needs the specialist testing and repair scope. Each supplies information to this comparison without establishing a universal cheapest option.
