Battery Disconnect Switches and Ignition Switches: What to Check

A battery disconnect switch and an ignition switch have different functions. A similar key or housing does not make them interchangeable.
Disconnecting the battery is not starting the engine
A battery disconnect switch isolates a battery circuit in the arrangement specified by the equipment manufacturer. An ignition or starter-control switch operates a control circuit. Compare the intended function, terminal arrangement and electrical requirements before ordering.
Caterpillar identifies 7N-0718 as a 24-volt battery disconnect switch. It should not be described generically as an ignition switch. That official identification does not establish the identity or interchangeability of every number mentioned in an aftermarket listing.
Preserve complete references
Earlier text also mentions 7N0719 / 7N-0719 and 7H7290. Keep these references separate until the exact part or documented cross-reference is checked. Similar numbers and shared keys do not prove the same circuit function or specification.
- Photograph the existing switch and terminal markings.
- Record the complete part number, machine model and serial number.
- Compare voltage, current rating, mounting and control positions from the applicable documentation.
- Confirm the supplied keys, terminals and any separately required fittings.
Use the machine's electrical procedure
Electrical isolation, replacement and testing should follow the equipment instructions. Do not bypass a safety function or substitute a control switch for a battery isolator.
Send KuduParts the reference and photographs so the proposed replacement can be compared with the actual circuit requirement.
