Gear Pump Performance Claims: Which Data to Compare — editorial illustration; not application or diagnostic evidence.

Before paying for an allegedly more efficient gear pump, ask what was compared. A material or technology label is not a measurement, and a rating from another product cannot establish the offered pump’s performance.

How to assess efficiency claims

Compare data at stated speed, pressure, temperature and fluid conditions. Reduced leakage or improved mechanical efficiency must be supported by measurements for the product. An unqualified energy-saving claim does not predict the result in a different hydraulic circuit.

Turn the claim into a comparable data request

Claim Information needed
Higher output Identified displacement, drive speed, operating pressure and the actual delivery basis.
Better efficiency The efficiency definition, operating point and stated fluid conditions.
Lower noise The measurement method, installation and operating condition.
Longer life or improved materials Relevant product-specific construction or test evidence and its scope.

Parker's pump and motor catalog relates performance to identified configurations and conditions. Keep those conditions beside a proposed comparison instead of copying one maximum figure into a replacement request.

Changing shaft speed changes nominal flow from a fixed-displacement pump; it does not on its own turn the pump into a variable-displacement design. The pump-type guide covers that terminology. This article concerns evidence behind a performance claim, not permission to increase speed or operating limits.
