Close-up of a radiator tank, mounting point and finned core.

A leaking or overheating radiator needs a diagnosis before a purchasing decision. The useful comparison is between a documented repair and a correctly specified replacement, taking account of the core, tanks, connections and the cause of the cooling problem.

Check the cooling system before blaming the radiator

Record when the temperature rises, the working load, coolant loss and any visible damage. Restricted airflow, a fan or belt problem, a thermostat fault, incorrect coolant or another engine problem can produce similar symptoms. A replacement radiator will not correct every cause of overheating.

Let the engine cool and follow the equipment manufacturer's pressure-release and shutdown procedures. A radiator specialist can assess leakage, internal restriction and repairability without relying on age alone.

What makes a repair worth considering?

The location and extent of damage matter more than a simple rule such as “small leak equals repair.” The material, condition of the surrounding core, tank construction and availability of suitable repair methods all affect the decision. Ask what the repair includes and how the unit will be checked afterward.

Question Repair estimate Replacement estimate
Scope Identify the leak or damaged area and the proposed repair. Confirm the complete assembly and any separately supplied fittings.
Condition Assess the remaining core and tanks, not just the visible defect. Check mounting points, connections and the required core specification.
Total cost Include removal, cleaning, repair, testing and refitting. Include the part, freight, coolant, seals and installation.
Downtime Request the actual workshop turnaround. Confirm stock, dispatch and destination-specific delivery estimates.

There is no reliable universal replacement age or price range for all heavy equipment radiators. Obtain an itemized quote for the actual machine and compare the work covered by each option.

Match the replacement to the machine

Use the machine model, serial number and existing part number, then compare overall dimensions, core dimensions, hose locations, supports and any integrated cooler. A similar-looking radiator can have a different arrangement.

The KuduParts 140-3634 radiator listing and 6C090-58502 radiator listing are separate product examples. Their model descriptions do not establish universal compatibility. Confirm the exact configuration and supplied components before ordering.

Make the decision from evidence

Keep the inspection findings, two written estimates and the replacement specification together. Choose the option that addresses the diagnosed problem and the machine's requirements; do not assume the cheaper initial quote or the newest part will always be the better outcome.
